I need to …address the ignorance shown by the present government in relation to mental disability. My son Dyan who is 14 years old was diagnosed with pervasive mental disorder and suffers epileptic seizures. His disabilities have provided huge obstacles for both Dylan and my family. His sensory and behaviour issues have caused safety issues for both the family and other road users when trying to transport Dylan to social activities/clubs. I have applied for a Primary Medical Certificate for him but have been rejected on numerous occasions due to not meeting the criteria. This states he must be without limb/limbs or wheelchair bound. Dylan’s disabilities while his limbs are in tact result in a person suffering non use of limbs due to a number of reasons. We refered this to the Ombudsman for Children and his findings have been acknowledged by the Minister for Finance. Mr Michael Noonan due to financial restraints is not in a position to change the criteria which will offer Dylan and my family the chance to obtain opportunities of a better life.
