My name is Mary. I live in a town about 20 minutes outside of Monaghan. I have a brother who has been in the pyschiatric Cavan Hospital for the past six months. I can only rely on the bus service, as I do not drive. I am attending a course during the week, so I can only visit him on a Saturday and there is no bus service on a Sunday. I find the services to be totally inadequate.
I have to get a bus at 10.20 am from Castleblayney to Monaghan, and then wait an hour in Monaghan until 12 pm to get a bus to Cavan. The bus does not stop at the hospital, so I have a 30 minute walk to the hospital and back. Visiting times are from 2pm – 4pm, and I have to wait two hours to get a bus back to Castleblayney.
For a two hour visit it nearly takes 10 hours. I would be quicker going to Dublin and back.
This does not help with my brothers recovery, I feel there should be a better bus service to Cavan as it is our main hospital.
