Hi my name is Rory James from Letterkenny. I have a spinal cord injury so I use a wheelchair full time. Apart from the obvious problems like the cost of medication, accessible doors, toilets, pathways and kerbs here is a couple that really affect me.
Tables in restaurants and bars
can be too low or can juat not be accessible e.g the table can be the right height but may have obstacles underneath which stop you from being able to get in close like the design of the legs or table stand.
Getting taxis can also be a nightmare at nighttime with a lot of companies just claiming that “there isn’t any on tonight”, even though every 7 seater would be working all weekend for pubs and clubs. They don’t want hassle of taking one wheelchair user when they could have a full load on in less time and make more money.
